Over the last 3 years we have been apart of a research project sponsored by the Ministry of Education, known as the ECE ICT PL project. We researched how with the support of ICT's could the teachers build a learning environment where the children and their Whanau could learn about the Treaty partnerships in an authentic and meaningful manner.
The following statement from the introduction of the National Curriculum for Early Childhood Te Whariki remains a motivator , "all children should be given the opportunity to develop knowledge and an understanding of the cultural heritages of both partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This blog is aimed at sharing a bit the staffs journey of bringing this about.
As well as provide a few examples alongside the many that are already happening in centers around the country, of how in mainstream early childhood education, making things Maori normal is quite possible and within the reach of those who are serious about fulfilling this part of our curriculum.
